Lada Suomenrinne was born in Northern Russia but has lived most of their life in the northernmost point of Finland, Sápmi. There Suomenrinne was adopted by their stepfather into his Sámi family. The roots of their work are in cultural identity and belonging; Suomenrinne explores their relationship to the heritage and climate crisis through the body-land-trauma.

Their inspiration comes from the curiosity about the borderland, where the unseen lakes of Sáminess are. Suomenrinne is in a dialogue with the Earth, with whom they search for a place of security as a wounded living being. They photograph at the end of the world.
